There is no real beach here, but only 7km away is the sand and pebble beach of Kaputas, a must for its beautiful scenery. Or you can take a dolmus to the beach clubs along the coast, where you can top up your tan. Kalkan is an excellent base for exploring the Lycian ruins scattered between Tlos and the coast. One of the most popular excursions from Kalkan and Kas is a boat trip to the island of Simena, passing the ancient submerged city of Kekova on your way. Within reach of Kalkan is Saklikent Gorge, 18km long and so narrow and steep in places that the sun doesnt reach the water. You can reach the icy cold water on a wooden boardwalk above the river, then carry on paddling up the gorge in the shallow water.
